One of the first things you need to know about good leadership in your network marketing business is that you have to set a good example for your team. Usually a sponsor will not lead their organization in person. Instead they will provide a procedure book and expect the company to comply. Another method is micro managers which do not allow their team to reach their full potential by not encouraging growth in their current position. Both of these examples can lead to problems and prevent the business from succeeding.

While it is important to provide guidance and training to your team, it is just as important to realize that it is not your job to hand hold. It is a fine line that needs to be realized on both ends. With any business there is a learning curve and the most effective leaders realize this. Leadership is about offering tools to your new partners, thus allowing yourself to focus on your own business (sales) and giving them the time needed to learn their business. This is all about leading by example. Because if you are spending all your time 'managing' your team and not creating success (making sales) then you are not leading by example.
Leadership to your team can also be shown through encouragement and acknowledging their successes and achievements. This can also be done in large organizations by making a weekly call for everyone to get on. Make it known to the team who is creating success and ask the individuals to share how they do it. Considering the internet based business often run by network marketing companies, it is inevitable that there would be a certain degree of isolation for the individual business owner. It is this type of community that can support a team to eventually achieve success.
Good training also denotes good leadership. Do not however take it into your hands to do all the training. This business is about liberty and leveraging your time; remember that. Good affiliate training can be found on the internet, and many companies have very good corporate training. Everything is on the web, from lead follow up training to online marketing training. Just direct them to the source of information and they should be good to go. Don't expect all to go; as they say - one can only lead the horse to the water.
The last thing to understand regarding leadership and network marketing is that you want to support your team to become the leader of their own team. Meaning, the ultimate goal is that you have many leaders on your team or organization that are leaders of their own teams. By supporting them through training, positive reinforcement, and an over all sense of confidence, you are using the example you set, to help others create success. The best way for you to do this, is to be making sales yourself and living the life you want to live.
